Sourcebook Saver Terms of Use
Covers the Sourcebook Saver Chrome extension and the Sourcebook Saver add-on for Google Docs
Contents
1. Agreement
Sourcebook Saver, made up of a Chrome extension and a Google Docs add-on, is provided by its operator (the "operator," "we," "us"; legal name to be announced). These terms are an agreement between you and the operator. By installing or using Sourcebook Saver, you agree to these terms and to the Sourcebook Saver Privacy Policy. If you use Sourcebook Saver through your school, your school's rules and any agreement between your school and Sourcebook Saver also apply. If that agreement conflicts with these terms, the school's agreement controls.
2. Who may use it
Sourcebook Saver is made for students, teachers and schools. Students use it through a school Google account and with their school's permission. Teachers who use it with their students confirm that their school allows it. Schools using it with students under 13 are responsible for giving consent on behalf of parents, as described in the Privacy Policy.
3. Your work stays yours
Your sources, notes, highlights and papers belong to you and your school. Sourcebook Saver stores them in your own Google account, and claims no ownership of them.
4. Using it responsibly
- Follow your school's acceptable-use policy.
- Save only material you are allowed to access, and respect the terms of the websites and library databases you save from. Saved copies are for your own research.
- Do not try to access anyone else's data, interfere with Sourcebook Saver, or use it for anything unlawful.
5. Citations are a helper, not a guarantee
Sourcebook Saver finds citation details automatically from public catalogues. They can be incomplete or wrong. You are responsible for checking your citations before you hand in your work.
6. Provided "as is"
Sourcebook Saver is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent the law allows. It depends on Google's services and on outside catalogues, which may change or be unavailable. To the fullest extent the law allows, Sourcebook Saver and the operator are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data. Keep your own copy of important work.
7. Changes and ending use
We may update Sourcebook Saver or these terms. If a change is significant, we will post the new terms with a new date and tell schools that use it. You can stop using Sourcebook Saver at any time by removing the add-on and the extension. Your files stay in your Google Drive. We may suspend access that breaks these terms.
8. Sourcebook Saver Pro: subscription, renewal and cancellation
- Students are always free. Saving sources, notes and citations never cost students anything.
- Sourcebook Saver Pro adds the teacher tools, including Teacher view, for one teacher. It costs $5 per month or $49 per year, per teacher (you choose monthly or yearly billing), plus any applicable tax.
- Free trial. New teachers get 30 days of Pro free. We will remind you before the trial ends. If you cancel during the trial, you will not be charged.
- Automatic renewal. Pro renews automatically at the end of each billing period at the then-current price until you cancel. We will show the price, the billing period and how to cancel before you subscribe, and ask you to agree to the renewal.
- Cancel anytime. Cancel online (link to be announced) or by emailing support@sourcebooksaver.com. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and Pro features stay on until then.
- Refunds. If you ask within 14 days of a payment, we will refund that payment in full. Email support@sourcebooksaver.com. After 14 days, payments are not refundable, except where the law requires a refund.
- Price changes. We will give you at least 30 days' notice before a price change applies to your subscription, so you can cancel first.
- Payments are handled by a payment processor (to be announced) under its terms. We never see your full card number.
- When Pro ends, Teacher view stops. Your students' work is not affected. Listings already in your Drive stay there until you delete them.
- School licenses. A school or district can also buy Pro for its teachers under a separate written agreement, which controls if it differs from these terms.
9. Open-source parts
The Sourcebook Saver Chrome extension includes Mozilla Readability (Apache License 2.0) and PDF.js (Apache License 2.0). The Sourcebook Saver add-on for Google Docs includes citeproc-js (Common Public Attribution License / GNU Affero GPL). Their licenses are included with the software.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, except where a school's agreement or the law of the school's state says otherwise.
